Real Acting for Unreal Worlds with Arianna Ratner April 14, 21 & 28 | 12:00–3:00 PM PT | Online Ages 18+ | Limited to 8 Students In animation and video games, the worlds may be imaginary—but the acting has to be real. In this three-week intensive, working actor and director Arianna Ratner guides you through the craft of grounded, emotionally truthful performance for animated and game characters. Whether you're battling dragons, piloting starships, or voicing creatures from another dimension, the key to compelling voice work is authentic acting. Actors will focus on building believable emotional stakes, connecting to character motivations, and bringing specificity to performances in heightened or fantastical circumstances. Through directed reads, scene work, and instructor feedback, you'll explore how strong acting choices translate into dynamic voice performances. In this class, you'll work on: • Grounded acting techniques for animation and video game scripts • Creating emotional truth in heightened or fantasy scenarios • Character intention, stakes, and point of view • Making bold, specific acting choices • Taking direction and adjusting performance in real time Each session includes individual performance time with feedback from Arianna in a focused, small-group setting. Perfect for voice actors who want to strengthen their acting foundation and bring greater depth and authenticity to roles set in unreal worlds. Policies for Online Classes: • All classes are recorded, and links to view or download them are provided to all enrolled students within three days after the class. • If, for any reason, you can not make the date/time of class, you will still be given access to view the entire workshop with the recorded video. Equipment and Attendance: • Professional gear is not required, but students must have a phone, tablet, or computer with reliable access to Zoom, a camera, and audio. • Cameras are mandatory for class and must be turned on for the duration of the beginning portion of class. Once attendance is taken and class has started, cameras may be turned off at the discretion of the instructor. Cancellation Policy: • Payment is only refundable if cancelled at least 72 hours before the event. Funds will be returned to the original form of payment. • If cancellation occurs prior to 48 hours before the start of the event, but less than 72 hours before the event, payment will be nonrefundable, but may be rolled over to another workshop. • For any cancellation occurring less than 48 hours before the start of the workshop, payment will be forfeited.
