About Your Class:
3-WEEK ONLINE INTENSIVE WITH BRENT MUKAI Tuesdays, October 20, October 27, November 3 6:30 to 9:30 PM PT | Online FIND YOUR ARCHETYPES: Discover & Develop Your Character VO Wheelhouse Hero. Villain. Lovable idiot. Unhinged little creature. Stoic warrior. Smarmy know-it-all. Over three weeks, Brent Mukai will help you explore the character types that fit naturally into your voice, acting instincts, personality, and point of view, then push those archetypes further to create characters that are specific, distinct, playable, and authentically yours. This isn't about finding one “character voice” and doing it over and over again. You'll dig into what makes an archetype recognizable, learn how to make strong acting and vocal choices within it, and discover how far you can stretch a character while still keeping it grounded in something real. Expect lots of playing, experimenting, making bold choices, probably making some very weird noises, and building a clearer sense of where YOU fit in the character VO world. Over the three weeks, you'll work on: •Identifying the archetypes that live naturally in your voice and performance style •Finding multiple characters and variations within the same archetype •Using acting choices, physicality, placement, rhythm, attitude, and point of view to create distinction •Stretching beyond your defaults without losing authenticity •Building characters that feel specific rather than like a collection of “voices” •Developing a stronger sense of your character VO wheelhouse for auditions, demos, and performance ABOUT BRENT Brent brings more than a decade of acting, improv, and comedy experience to his VO work. Brent Mukai is an award-winning voice actor, improviser, comedian, and longtime character-making machine whose credits span some seriously massive worlds in video games, anime, and animation. You've heard him as Gary in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gyokko in Demon Slayer, Kaiju No. 10 in Kaiju No. 8, Cao Cao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and in titles including Genshin Impact, Ghost of Yōtei, Silent Hill f, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Diablo IV, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and many, many more. He also received a Society of Voice Arts Award for Outstanding Anime Character - Best Male Voiceover for his performance as Ginji in Full Dive.
